The First Leap to Financial Freedom: Starting my own business

I decided to make the great leap into the unknown when I started my own business.  For the first time in my career I was making good money.  But as good as it was making significantly more income – and watching my savings grow – I knew there was no way that I was going to retire well.

You see I could do the math and I understood I was too close to retirement to make up for the hard, lean years.  I realized it was very likely I may never be able to retire at all.

I watched my real estate clients flourishing.  Their liquidity and net worth were growing rapidly as a result of their investing in commercial real estate.  I knew that the only way I was going to retire well was to follow their lead.

The Second Leap to Financial Freedom: Investing in CRE

Eleven years ago I made the biggest and most financially rewarding leap in my career: I started investing in commercial real estate.  Since that time I’ve invested in nine rental properties.

Today, not only could I retire if I chose to, but I could do so comfortably.  Currently, I have several sources of passive income generated from my real estate investments.  This year, for the first time, the passive income from my rental properties when added to my future Social Security checks significantly exceeds my personal expenses.  And that’s the definition of retiring in style.  When passive income comfortably exceeds your personal expenses you have achieved financial freedom.

If I can do it, so can you!

Why am I telling you about my journey from financial distress to retiring in style?  Because I believe that 90% of you reading this are in the same predicament I was in.  You’re either currently living paycheck to paycheck, as I was for the first 24 years of my CRE career, or you are financially prosperous but realize that unless things change dramatically you’re not going to retire well.
